Answer #1

Ans:

1. B

2. A

3. C

4. A

5. B

6. D

7. E

Explanation: In semiconsevative replication, the two strand of DNA is separated and each strand serve as a template. Each newly synthesized DNA double helix contain one parental strand and one new strand. So, parental strand are half preserved. If the cells grown on heavy medium (15N), are traferred to light medium (14N). After one generation they are produce hybrid DNA (15N- 14N). After two generation on light mediun, they are produce hybrid DNA (15N- 14N) and light DNA. After one generation on light mediun if the cells are again transferred to heavy medium, they are produce hybrid DNA and heavy DNA.

In consevative replication, the two strand of DNA double helix serve as a template and one daughter cell contain parental DNA duplex and other daughter cell contain newly synthesized DNA duplex. h So, parental strand are fully preserved. If the cells grown on heavy medium, are traferred to light medium. After one generation in conservative replication, they are produce Half heavy and half light DNA, no hybrid DNA are produce. After two generation on light mediun, they are produce half heavy and half light DNA.

In dispersive replication, the two strand of DNA double helix first cuts into pieces and then rejoin. Each daughter cell contain a patchwork of parental and new DNA duplex. So, parental strand are not preserved. If the cells grown on heavy medium, are traferred to light medium. After one generation in dispersive replication, they are produce hybrid DNA.

N medium may Heavy DNA La 1st generation Hybrid DNA medium is NI - Inn Light Hybrid 2nd medium generation - Semiconservative

QUESTION 27 The Meselson and Stahl experiment was used to compare the conservative, semiconservative and dispersive models of DNA replication. They cultured E. coli cells for several generations in a medium containing heavy nitrogen, 15 N. They then transferred the bacteria to a medium containing a lighter nitrogen isotope, 14 N. Samples were taken after the first round of DNA replication; another sample was taken after the second round of replication. They extracted DNA and centrifuged each sample. Explain (in...

In the late 1950s, Meselson and Stahl grew bacteria in a medium containing "heavy" nitrogen (^15 N) and then transferred the bacteria to a medium containing^14 N ("lighter" nitrogen) and allowed some of the the bacteria to undergo one round of replication and some bacteria to undergo two rounds of replication. They then performed density gradient centrifugation and looked to see where the DNA settled in the test tube. In the diagram below, draw bands indicating the density of the...

Question 7 (1 point) Saved DNA replication occurs through the semi-conservative replication mechanism; what was observed in the Meselson and Stahl experiment, in which DNA purified from E. coli growing on 14N-medium was centrifuged in a density gradient tube, by the third generation of DNA replication? One band representing "light" DNA OTwo bands: a light density band and a faint hybrid density band Three bands: one each of light density, hybrid density, and high density bands One band representing "heavy"...

In a famous experiment, Matthew Meselson and Franklin Stahl grew E.coli cells in a medium containing only the "her isotope of nitrogen, SN. These cells were then transferred to a medium with the "light" isotope of nitrogen, "N. The results of the experiment supported the hypothesis of semiconservative replication, which was proposed by Watson and Crick. Heavy DNA ('N DNA), hybrid DNA, and light DNA (N DNA) can be separated by centrifugation. If cells containing 1SN DNA are transferred to...
