Answer #1

Answer)

1. True: epistasis is an interaction between two genes. The tree meaning of epistasis is one above the other. One gene in the genome produces one protein that might affect the function of another protein.

A standard definition of epistasis: The interaction of genes that are not alleles, in particular the suppression of the effect of one such gene by another.

2. True   If an allele is dominant it produces the same effect as the homozygous one.

What does it mean :

if BB genotype produce blue tail feathers in birds

Bb also produces blue tail feathers.

3. True dominance refers to the expression of the dominant allele that masks the recessive form of the allele of the same gene.

In the above example of feathers B allele masks the effects of b allele. Due to many reasons, one might be that the product formed by the B allele is more efficient than protein from b allele.

4.Flase epistasis is an interaction between two different genes not within a gene. Within a gene, it is dominance and recessiveness that masks each other.

Therefor 4th option is the right answer.

    1) Select the true statements about dominant and recessive genes, assuming complete penetrance of the genotype. Circle all that apply. (1.5) For an offspring to be phenotypically dominant for a trait, at least one parent will show the trait. For an offspring to be phenotypically recessive for a trait, at least one parent will show the trait. 9. Some (many) traits are polygenic, meaning that multiple genes influence the phenotype. Eye color is polygenic. It actually involves several genes, but there are two that have a major role. Polygenic traits are also incompletely dominant. So assume for eye color that there are two genes, B and C. For each, the dominant allele causes the eye to have more pigment, and be darker The two genes are on different chromosomes, and inherit independently. If an individual was Bb...

Assume that tail length in mice is a quantitative trait involving two genes, each with 2 alleles. Mice with 0 contributing alleles have tails that are 4 cm in length; mice with tails with 4 contributing alleles are 12 cm in length.
