Answer #1

a. types of male germ cells= 24= 16

b. types of female germ cells = 4 ( ABcD, ABcd, aBcD, aBcd)

c.assuming each allele separately,

AaxAa= 2 phenotypes

Bbxbb= 1 phenotype

Ccxcc= 2 phenotypes

DdxDd= 2 phenotypes

multiplying all, 2x1x2x2= 8 phenotypes

    4. Now, assume that a F1 male and a F1 female offspring produced by the cross in #3 above mate with each other. F1 offspring : XXGgBb and XYGgBb Note: You can ignore the X and Y chromosomes here in question 4. Why? The traits of interest (fire-breathing and laser-shooting) are autosomal, so the sex of the fly (XX=female or XY=male) will not impact the trait expressed. You only need to follow the inheritance of chromosomes 2 and 3 for...

    In a certain plant species, inheritance of fruit size is controlled by four genes, each of which has two alleles that show incomplete dominance and each of which contributes equally to an individual’s phenotype. Plants with the largest fruits have the genotype AABBCCDD, while those with the smallest fruits have the genotype aabbccdd. a) How many possible genotypes for fruit size are there in this species? b) Based on genotype alone (ignoring environmental factors), how many possible phenotypes for fruit...

    You are given a stock of female Drosophila that appears wild type. You cross them with wild-type males and collect progeny, recording the following results: 1,000 wild-type females, 450 wild-type males, and 50 white-eyed males. (Note the male to female ratio.) How many genes are assorting? What phenotypes do they control? Is linkage indicated? If so, what is the map distance?
