compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
We can compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells in the following ways
1. Eukaryotic cells have a membrane bound nucleus whereas a true membrane bound nucleus is absent in prokaryotes.
2. DNA is complexed with histones in eukaryotes whereas it is not complexed with histones in prokaryotes.
3. Number of chromosomes is usually one in prokaryotic cells whereas eukaryotes contain more than one chromosomes.
4. Unit membrane bound organelles are present in eukaryotic cells whereas these are absent in prokaryotic cells.
5. Prokaryotes contain 70S ribosomes wheras eukaryotes contain both 80S(in cytosol) and 70S (in organelles) ribosomes.
6. Both mitosis and meiosis occur in eukaryotes wheras meiosis is absent in prokaryotic cells.
7. Cell wall is present in most prokaryotes made of peptidoglycan. In eukaryotes cell wall is made up of cellulose in plants and chitin in fungi, and is absent in animal cells.
Write down the differences between Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells.
1. Compare and contrast Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes. 2. How can prokaryotic cells be smaller than eukaryotic cells and still carry on all the essential functions of life. 3. Compare and contrast Archea and Bacteria.
