13) Protected areas are one of the main instruments for biodiversity conservation, and the global protected area system continues to grow. Is the increase in area protected a good surrogate for the effectiveness of the global protected areas to conserve biodiversity? Why/Why not? (2 pts).

Answer- Yes, increase in protected areas are good surrogates for conserving biodiversity because these areas provide natural and undistrubed habitats for various different species. Some protected areas are maintained by forest officers which takes care for wild species, and offers special care to wild endangered species therefore these protected areas are good for conserving biodiversity.
