Pancreas is a mixed gland hboth endocrine and exocrine function. The endocrine function is to release hormones. There are mainly four types of cells in endocrine part of pancreas. A cells ( alpha cells), B cells ( beta cells), T cells ( delta cells) and F cells. Alpha celled release glucagon and B cells release insulin depending on the conditions. Conditions given in the question are:

(A) when fasting: When there is no meal taken from outside, thus no availability of Glucose from GIT to blood, so, the cells will take Glucose from blood resulting in the decrease in blood glucose level. So, the alpha cells of pancreas will release glucagon hormone which will increase glycogenolysis mainly and gluconeogenesis less commonly, to increase the blood glucose level. So, glucagon promote the release of glucose by glycogenolysis.

(B) immediately following a meal: Meal will provide glucose and after its absorption, it will reach to the blood. It will result into increase in blood glucose level. Insulin is hypoglycemic in nature. Beta cells of pancreas will sense the low blood glucose level and secrete insulin. Insulin will help in storing extra Glucose in the form of glycogen and transport the extra Glucose to liver and muscles. Thus, decrease the blood glucose level, helping in maintaining the normal blood glucose concentration.
