Integument is the outer covering of an organism, like skin or shell.

The outer layer is the first protective layer for an organism. It provides a shield against the temperature regulations outside in the environment, that is, it keeps the body temperature maintained. Also the epidermal layer keeps the bidy hyderated by preventing the water loss.

When exposed to the sun, it synthesises Vitamin D precursor for the maximum absorption by the body.
