In fruit flies, gray bodies (G) are dominant over black bodies (g), and brown pigments (N) are dominant over yellow pigments (n). Each individual possesses two alleles for each trait.

If a fly that is homozygous dominant for both traits is crossed with a fly that is homozygous recessive for both traits, what is the predicted genotype of the offspring?

Answer #1

So when crossed with homozygous dominant and homozygous recessive the cross will be like

GGNN X ggnn

Thus one allele will be one parent thus it will be G, N from homozygous dominant and g,n from homozygous recessive.

Thus it will be GgNn will be the genotype of the offspring.

Thank you....

You are investigating two traits in fruit flies controlled by one autosomal dominant gene each. The B gene controls for body color (B=black or b=brown), while the r gene controls for body sculpture (R=rugose or r=smooth). After crossing heterozygous rugose black flies with homozygous smooth brown flies, you obtain an F1 generation of 100% rugose black flies. 1. What are the dominant alleles? 2. What are the genotypes of the two parent flies to perform a dihybrid cross? 3. Of...
