The Color of an object is determined by the color of the light it absorbs . Every substance absorbs the light of a particular color and then emit (reflects) the light of complementary color to the absorbed color .

Complementary color are the colors which combines to form white light . e.g. yellow-violet , green-red , orange-blue are complementary colours .

Grass appears green beacuse grass absorbed light of red color from the visible spectrum and emitted the light complementary to red i.e. green light and thus grass appeared green .

So color of the object is determined by the color of the light absorbed , appearance color is complementary to the absorbed color .
