Answer #1
  • One of the most important milestone was the establishment of first experimental laboratory by Wilhelm Wundt in 1879 in Germany.Wundt also gave the most important school of psychology called Structualism, which was the analysis of basic elements that make up the mind.He was regarded as the father of psychology. This lab was the first step towards modern psychology.
  • He was considered important because he was the first one to separate the field of psychology from philosophy by analyzing the workings of the mind in a more structured manner, through introspection, self reports etc.
  • Another milestone would be the school of Functionalism by William James. This school emphasized upon the functions rather than the structure of human consciousness and how it leads to adaptive behaviour.James believed that our mental processes of thinking, decision making and even sensory abilities like smelling were all adaptive in nature as it helped our ancestors in their survival.
