Answer #1

Answer: Option C is correct.

Explanation:

Membrane proteins are of two types.

i. Integral proteins (Intrinsic proteins) contain hydrophobic membrane spanning regions. they can serve as membrane receptor as they contain a cytoplasmic domain to transmit the signal.

ii. Peripheral proteins (Extrinsic proteins) float on the lipid bilayer. They can not serve as membrane receptors on their own as they lack a cytoplasmic domain to transmit the signal. However, a peripheral protein can serve as a co-receptor by associating with another intrinsic protein.
