There are many ways that leadership has been defined in Chapter 1. Based on your personal experience or observation of others, how do you defined leadership? How does your definition of leadership compare to the text? How does your definition of leadership compare or contrast to the leadership definitions presented in chapter 1?

Leadership plays an important role in every organization in respect of motivating, influencing and guiding people in an organization. The main focus of leadership is to organize activities in such way that the main focus would be achieving a common goal. It is basically an activity of leading a group of people or an organization by establishing a clear vision and sharing the same with others in order to achieve a common goal. It promotes the co-operation and teamwork and encourages the interaction among the group members. The main purpose of leadership is to show the right direction to members and plays important role in managing the conflicts that arises between the members and exercise high influence to enable the group to take the right decision.
If we consider the management perspective, leadership is different from management. Management can be taught but leadership cannot be taught. Leadership consist of personal skills of an individual.


However it is very important that the right person should be chosen for this post , which means that a leader would have effective skills in all the ways. Following are some qualities given that must included in every leader.


1.Change catalyst- He must be good in Initiating and managing change
2.Inspirational skills-Some skills include Guiding, motivating, and inspiring individuals and group to achieve their personal, professional, group, and organizational goals.
3.Building bonds- He should know that how to maintain and retain the relationship
4.Conflict management- Listening openly , talking meaningful and resolving disagreements.
5.Developing others- Sensing other’s developing needs, improving their abilities, helping them in goal setting through guidance and feedback.
6.Teamwork and cooperation- He should work with other by understanding their needs and wants and also ensure teamwork in group.
7.Influence- Exercising influence and persuasion over other to take the direct actions.
