Answer #1

when the kid jump of the equipment in radial direction, he/she does not contribute to the angular momentum, in this process the angular momentum is conserved, we have

I0w0 = IW

after the kid jump in, I>I0

W = I0/I *W0 <W0

the angular speed will decrease

    A merry-go-round is a common piece of playground equipment. A 2.8-m-diameter merry-go-round with a mass of 260 kg is spinning at 22 rpm. John runs tangent to the merry-go-round at 5.0 m/s, in the same direction that it is turning, and jumps onto the outer edge. John's mass is 39 kg. What is the merry-go-round's angular velocity, in rpm, after John jumps on?

    A roundabout is a type of playground equipment involving a large at metal disk that is able to spin about its center axis. A roundabout of mass 120kg has a radius of 1.0m is initially at rest. A child of mass 43kg is running toward the edge of the roundabout (meaning, running on a path tangent to the edge) at 2.7 m/s and jumps on. Once she jumps on the roundabout, they move together as a single object. Assume the...

    Starting from rest, the boy runs outward in the radial direction from the center of the platform with a constant acceleration of 0.5 m/s2. If the platform is rotating at a constant rate theta = 0.2 rad/s, determine the radial and transverse components of the velocity and acceleration of the boy when t = 3 s. Neglect his size.

    A boy is running outwards at a constant speed of 2 m/s along a radial line on a merry-go-round platform. The platform is rotating at the rate of 20 revolutions per minute. What is the magnitude of the acceleration (in m/s2) acting on the boy when he is 1m away from the centre?

    4. A student (mass= 60.0 kg) is standing on a rotating platform (mass= 200 kg). Treat the platform as a uniform cylinder with a radius 1.50 m, and treat the student as a point object. The student is standing right on the edge. The platform starts at rest. A friend then exerts a constant torque on the platform. This causes the angular speed of the platform to increase to 0.8 rad/s over a time of 5.0 s, at which point...

    As seen from above, a playground carousel is rotating counterclockwise about its center on frictionless bearings. A person standing still on the ground grabs onto one of the bars on the carousel very close to its outer edge and climbs aboard. Thus, this person begins with an angular speed of zero and ends up with a nonzero angular speed, which means that he underwent a counterclockwise angular acceleration. The carousel has a radius of 1.56 m, an initial angular speed...
