Meaning

These are the general laws which mainly deals with the conflicts between the individuals, organizations or both in which the wrongdoer has to compensate the other party

These are the laws related to the crime committed against the society or as a whole

Who starts the action

The plaintiff starts the proceedings

The government tarts the case

Purpose

To uphold the right of an individual and compensate for the losses

To maintain the law and order in the society and to punish those who are culprit

Starts with

The plaintiff files a case in the related court

A complaint is lodged with the police who investigates the case and hen a case is filed in the court

Burden of proof

The plaintiff has the burden of proof

The government or the investigating agency has the burden of proof

Standard of proof

Clear and convincing evidence

There will be a very high standard of proof that is beyond a reasonable doubt
