Ans: Generally Redfield ratio is defined as the atomic ratio of Carbon , Nitrogen and Phosphorus which are present in the phytoplankton and throughout the deep oceans. Where as Limnologists is the study of the Lakes , Rivers and Wet Lands.

Generally when it comes to ocean the Redfield ratio will be used to find out the Biochemical cycles of the oceans and the concentrations of the each elements and how this ratio will effect the eco system present in the oceans.

But when It comes to the the Limologists as they are dealing with the Lakes , rivers and wet Lands , generally Lakes and Rivers are used for the main sources for the drinking water. The Redfield ratio plays a vital role in the Study of the Lakes and Rivers. To know the drinking water standards this ratio will useful. It will be used to find out the changes in Ecosystem with the increase of decrease of Redfield ratio.
