Question

STAT 151 displaying and describing distributions (LAB 1) The titanic disaster

5. Now study the distribution of the age of the Titanic passengers.

 (a) Obtain a relative frequency histogram of age. Use the default class bins provided by the software. Paste the histogram into your report. The format of your histogram should be the same as the format of the histogram in the Lab 1 Instructions (title and labels).

(b) What is the shape of the histogram? Is it symmetric or skewed? Is it single-peaked or doublepeaked? Suggest an explanation for the pattern that you see. Given the shape of the histogram, what would be suitable measures of center and spread for the distribution?

(c) Were there any differences in age between those who survived and those who did not? In order to answer the question, obtain the mean, median, variance, standard deviation, min/max, quartiles, and IQR of age for the two groups. Paste the output into your report. Comment briefly.

(d) Obtain a side-by-side boxplot of age for those who survived and those who did not. Check the “Use fences to identify outliers” option. Paste the boxplot into your report. Based on the boxplot, what kind of shape can you expect for each of the two distributions? Compare the distribution of age of survivors and non-survivors. Are there any outliers?

(e) Obtain a histogram of age for those who survived and one for those who did not. Use the same xaxis and y-axis. Set the Bins to start at 0 and have a width of 6. Paste the histogram into your report. Based on the histogram, compare the distribution of age of survivors and non-survivors. Comment on the survival of children compared to other age groups. Do the histograms or the boxplots provide more information regarding the distribution of age of survivors and non-survivors?

QUESTION- Before applying any inferential tools to the data, always conduct a preliminary analysis to get an idea about the association between your variables. In addition, the results of a statistical analysis are valid only if the appropriate assumptions for the model to be used are valid. The assumptions for the ANOVA are that the data are independent and come from normal populations with equal variances (or standard deviations). In particular: (a) Obtain the summary statistics (sample size, mean, standard...
