discuss and explain how transportation and logistics areas are prime targets for attack
Cyber attack is increasing in every area with the use of digitalisation. Bringing automated systems into use makes all information and data go from the paper to systems. This makes it attractive for hackers to penetrate computer systems and access utilized data that can bring them money. The same reasons stand for transportation and logistics. Its efforts to digitize has made it more vulnerable to the attackers to derive data from it. Through that data, they get the information of the movements and thus accessible to criminals and terrorists for attacks.
Another reason is that more obvious targets such as banks, government offices and retailers have tightened their security from such attacks so the hackers are looking out for easy targets for entry. It becomes easy for hackers to target such easy areas where they can enter and get access to information for attacks. Also, transportation involves the crossing of borders and security levels of every place varies so the safety in transportation and logistics is at stake.
The transportation industry is also attractive for hackers because of global expansion. It has chains all over the world which involves different manufacturers and retailers and hence a large scope of data and money involved. Another reason is that where the logistics chains are large somewhere, they work on smaller levels at another. Due to these multiple systems and technologies are implemented and various degrees of cybersecurity is being used for such systems. This fragmentation and variation give hackers more opportunities to attack easily.
