Glycolysis is the process of breakdown of one molecule of glucose into two molecules of pyruvic acid in cytoplasm. It is a common step for aerobic and anaerobic respiration. It occurs in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.

All the glycolytic intermediates will either contains 6 carbons or 3 carbons.
