What it is - Puppet is one of the most comprehensive Configuration Management Tools in the industry. Puppet has some great modules, interfaces, and features. Puppet works in a client-server architecture environment and an agent communicates with the server to fetch configuration instruction.

Features:-

• This language enables the administrators to set the description of the server configuration in the form of packages, groups, users and services.
• The cycle of audit and sync makes certain that the whole network remains fluent and consistent.
• The relationship is ont only defined between resources, but resources are grouped into logical collections.

Usage:- It is easy to set Puppet up on system, but firstly you must install client agents and the master server too on each system that requires management.

Chef:-

What is it:- This powerful Configuration management tool is available as an open-source as well as enterprise product. Chef boasts a scalable and flexible platform for the automation and has a capabability of offering integration with major cloud providers. Chef offers support for enterprise platforms(including Windowsas well as Solaris) and allowing users to bootstrap, manage and develop OpenStack clouds.

Features:-

• Chef speeds up the process and simplifies the process of transfering applications to the cloud. Workload migration becomes more and more consistent, and maintains a desired pace that suits admin needs.
• Partial hardware or network failure does not affect Chef Server API, and is always available.
• Chef is very reliable, and is no longer to difficult to control all cloud environments. One can choose cloud providers that meet requirements based on cost and features with Chef.
