The basic characteristics of the manufacturing process are:
- Productivity- Manufacturing is the process in which produces goods to bring profits. a balanced input of labour, materials and resources results to output through the manufacturing process. A process which lacks productivity cannot be considered manufacturing and will only be a waste of resources.
- quality and design- The manufacturing process should be such that gives quality and design with which the product gains a competitive advantage. They should be consistent and not rise in the process and increase costs or fall and decrease sales. The success of the product on the manufacturing level lies in its quality and design
- Cost effective- a manufacturing process is a failure if it is not cost effective and multiplies the cost overheads of the company in production. No matter how good the quality of the product is but if the cost is exceeding the budgeted cost of production then the manufacturing process requires improvements.
- increase efficiency- the manufacturing process should be such that it increases the efficiency of the manpower and machinery involved in the process. With the increase in efficiency, the errors and delays will decrease thus making the manufacturing process effective and goal oriented.
