there are 23 monomer eka aminoacids, but with different combination of these proteins, different polymers arise having varies properties of being either hydrophobic, hydrophilic or many other. more over, when these mono mer fold, thy give rise to chemical properties of their chemical group which will over all able to deliver diffrent functions in the cell. the situation can be compared to the four bases of DNA which by combination give rise to million of different genes.
