Answer #1

a)

The regression equation is defined as,

Y abX

where

Y = maximum bench press

X = body weight

a = intercept = 50

b = slope = 0.50

Now, for body weight = 300 pounds

Y500.50 x 300 200

Maximum bench press = 200

b)

The standard error of prediction is obtained using the following formula,

SE = Sy 1-r2

where

sY = standard deviation for maximum bench press = 100

r = correlation between two variable = 0.60

SE 100 1-0.602

SD 80

The standard error of prediction = 80 pounds

    Question 1 Marmots are large, stocky animals. Yellow-bellied marmots are easily identified by the brownish fur on their back coupled with their yellow to orange undersides. Males are larger than females They usually weigh about ten pounds, and grow to about 30 inches. The mean length of 50 male marmots was found to be 10.74 inches with a standard deviation of 6.44 inches. The mean weight was found to be 7.7 pounds with a standard deviation of 2.64 pounds (a)...

Again, he hypothesizes that there would be a positive association between the two variables, such that greater levels of extraversion will be associated with greater levels of interest in statistics. To test this hypothesis, he used the same participants from his course...

    How much alcohol can one consume before one's Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is above the legal limit? An experiment was conducted at Gallaudet University to predict Blood Alcohol Content from the number of beers. A total of 50 volunteer college students (some men and some women) were assigned a certain number of beers to drink and then, after a half an hour, their Blood Alcohol (BAC) level was measured. To make this assignment simpler, we will only use the first...

    Question 11: Cardiorespiratory fitness is widely recognized as a major component of overall physical well-being. Direct measurement of maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) is the single best measure of such fitness, but direct measurement is time-consuming and expensive. It is therefore desirable to have a prediction equation for VO2max in terms of easily obtained quantities. A sample is taken and variables measured are age (years), time necessary to walk 1 mile (mins), and heart rate at the end of the walk...
