Briefly discuss how the funnel experiment and tampering relate to the Deming Chain Reaction.
The funnel experiment explains the contrary effects of having process changes with no study of the probable process variation causes. This “worsening” efforts are referred as “tampering”. Considering the physical experiment, as marble is used to dropped through a funnel over the paper sheet as a target, with the aim to stop the marble as close as to the stated target. While experimenting, various adjustments are done due to the resulting target variations. Thus, the experiment rules can be applied in many situations, such as , making changes with no use of control charts, process adjustment needed when the outcomes are out of the range based on the need, change in organizational policy based on the feedback received from the employment survey, use of previous budget variances to have the new goal setting for business, etc. For example, periodic calibration with respect to the standard and adjusting the values to compensate the error.
Briefly discuss how the funnel experiment and tampering relate to the Deming Chain Reaction.
2" (5%) Consider the funnel experiment described by Dr. Deming. The experiment is illustrated as to drop a marble through a funnel with the objective of hitting a target. Imagine that a funnel is fixed on a stand at a certain distance above a target point T on a level surface. A marble is dropped through the funnel. The marble rolls down the funnel and comes to rest at a certain location. This landing point is recorded. This experiment is...
