Both spreadsheets and database is used to store data in computer. But there are some differences between them.

Most common differences between spreadsheets and database are as follows:

  1. Spreadsheets is an application which is used to store data in rows and columns. Spreadsheets are useful for analysing and managing data whereas Database is a collection of related data which is well organised in the form of table. Data in database is stored and retrieved electronically from the system.
  2. Spreadsheets are useful only for storing small amount of data whereas we can manage of lots data in database very easily.
  3. Any non technical person can make changes in spreadsheets very easily. Working with spreadsheets doesn't require much knowledge but in the case of database, we need technical guy who knows different SQL commands to manage and store data.
  4. Spreadsheets are useful for storing simple data like numeric values or text but in case of database , along with numeric values and text, we can also store complex data like images and documents.
