Answer #1

D. isolate GFP gene from bioluminescent jelly fish, Aequora victoria and cut with restriction enzyme, insert functional gene into a virus or other vector; added vector to fibroblast culture and allow vector to insert functional gene into fibroblast DNA of E.coli; let E.coli grow and divide and produce GFP.

The above technique can be followed to genetically engineer E.coli bacteria so that it will contain the Green fluorescent protein gene.

Scientists have engineered bacteria to produce human proteins such as human growth hormone (hGH) to help treat dwarfism. Suppose the unmodified eukaryotic gene coding for hGH is inserted directly into a bacterial chromosome. Select the reasons why no expression would be seen in the bacterial cell for the hGH gene. Bacteria cannot remove intronic sequence from a gene, so if the gene for hGH were transcribed, it would translate to a nonfunctional protein. The bacterial nucleoid does not have the...

Draw (or arrange) only the items you need from the Lab Materials Page (picture below) in the order you would use them to make AND screen a gene library. You will ‘draw’ the steps that use the Lab Materials in the correct order to create and screen a gene library which has the assigned gene clone. You will need to add some connecting words and phrases to make all the steps for making your library clear. The genomic gene clone...
