Answer #1

Racial segregation in the US housing system is still present. The white people do not want a black in their neighborhood.

The color of the Law written by Richard Rothstein explains that segregation into white and black is the outcome of government policies, lawmaker’s decisions, that was passed by local state and federal government.   Being North against slavery the American slaves’ migrated from South to North.

After WWII the colonies were built demolishing the integrated system of living into the segregated system of living the builders were forced not to sell the houses to black in the colonies that are meant for white. The colonies that were meant for white had all the basic amenities.

The fair housing act was passed in 1968 to stop the discrimination in housing, but still, the racial discrimination on housing prevalent in the US

2. The second reason for white and black segregation is the survival gap. As per the studies although the life expectancy has improved the black has 9% survival rate as compared to white having 14%survival rates. The healthcare system has improved but the socio-economic condition of the black has not improved much. There is large scale unemployment in the black neighborhoods, due to low literacy rate.

The second factor is a highly populated area due to crowded housing, poor housing quality, lack of recreational facilities, and lack of basic amenities they are neglected by local municipalities, and the crime rate is higher due to addictions of alcohol and drug

3. According to the Los Angeles Newspaper, the city is very much segregated in housing, it is not due to their personal choice or private discrimination, and it is in fact, the effect of wrong government policies of mid 20th century that has given rise to black and white segregation in housing.

About 60% of African American living in the housing colonies where few white people are residing, the economic conditions of the African American is poor, after the WWII they were denied the job that was not filled by the white. The New Deal construction company divided the colonies into black and white by constructing new colonies in place of old integrated colonies.

Numerous examples indicate the discrimination when the Venice housing project was stared the white objected to the presence of African Americans in their neighborhood. These acts are sometimes involuntary and people have still not come out of Jim Crow law. The Los Angeles segregation has a long history and it is still prevalent the housing colonies, The Lakewood, developed by Mark Taper in 1940, The New Deal, The Venice housing, The pastor of the Wilshire Presbyterian Church debarring the Black joining church services, the denial of selling properties to black, In In 1943 a pledge was signed by the people never to sell their property to African Americans.

In 1968, Congress adopted the Fair Housing scheme to abolish discrimination, but it is not successfully followed and maintained. Still, there is a disparity in income the average black wealth is only 7% of whites.

4. The National analysis shows that although America becomes more diverse and integrated but the housing sections still show segregated housing colonies, the effect of slavery and Jim crow law is one the reasons that people involuntarily shows discrimination, the white does not prefer to have black as their neighbors the cities like Los Angeles,  Detroit and Chicago still have large areas that are dominated by one race.

As per Washington post, the country has become more diverse but the cities still show the segregated colonies.

The suburbs like the D.C. metro area,  Annandale, Va., and Silver Spring, Md shows more racially and ethnically diverse, then the cities, because most of the projects are built after the Fair Housing law, thus the discriminating effect is not present.

Houston city is a diverse city with lots of Hispanic and Asian staying in that city.

5. The law was passed in the Supreme Court desegregating the education, it was a landmark judgment passed in 954 ruling Brown v. Board of Education, and still, a large number of public schools are largely separate and unequal. The report published in Times magazine shows that about 75% of the students are black or white, the reason may be that most of the schools are present in the segregated areas, thus the students automatically either from the white, or black parents. Secondly, the schools are segregated by income groups. This has given rise to a gap in literacy.

Many organizations working towards desegregation like 1.Alliance for Justice helping in civil rights, mental health, women's, children's rights.

2. The American Association for Access, Equity, and Diversity is working for equal opportunity, diversity and different programs towards human resources.
