i. DNA is unzipped or unwound by helicase. It prokaryotes DNA B acts as helicase and in eukaryotes MCM 2-7 acts as helicase.

ii. The complimentary strands are added by to each template strand by DNA polymerase. DNA polymerase lll in prokaryotes and DNA polymerase gama/delta in eukaryotes are two enzymes involved mainly in this process.

iii. The strands are kept separated by single standard binding protein. In prokaryotes it is SSB and in eukaryote it is RP-A.

iv. The strss of unwinding is relieved by topoisomerase.

v. The fragments of daughter strands are kept joined together by DNA ligase.
