What are anaplerotic reactions and why are they important? If a bacterial cell was actively synthesizing amino acids, would you expect more or less PEP carboxylase activity? Why

Anaplerotic reaction are chemical reactions which forms intermediate substrates to the metabolic reactions. For example TCA cycle intermediates formation. PEP carboxylase will adds CO2 to PEP and forms Oxaloacetate(OAA) a starting compound of TCA. Which combined with Acetyl CoA and forms Isocitrate.

Here Some of PEP converts into Pyruvate and finnally forms Acetyl CoA but to meet the demand some of the PEP converts into OAA by PEP carboxylase.

We know TCA intermediates are hub for metabolism and its increased flux is essential for biosynthesis of various molecules and amino acids.
