1. Protein structure = Overall stable 3D-arrangement of amino acids in space
It includes four levels.
i. Primary structure = Linear sequence of amino acids
ii. Secondary structure = Local arrangement of polypeptide backbone
iii. Tertiary structure = Overall 3D-arrangement of polypeptide
iv. Primary structure = Interactions among constituent subunits in a multimeric protein

2. The primary structure ultimately determines the overall structure and function of a protein

3. Secondary structure = Local arrangement of the polypeptide backbone
The secondary structure is stabilized by hydrogen bonds between amino groups and carboxyl groups

4. Techniques to study protein structure:
i. Circular Dichroism
ii. X-ray crystallography
iii. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

5. Basic amino acids = Lysine, Histidine, and arginine
Acidic amino acids = Aspartic acid and glutamic acid
