Other options clearly seem illogical in this context as they are not at all related to the neurotransmitter release.

When an action potential depolarizes the presynaptic plasma membrane, Ca2+-channels open, and Ca2+ flows into the nerve terminal to trigger the exocytosis of synaptic vesicles, thereby releasing their neurotransmitters into the synaptic cleft.

No other ions are involved in this process.
