Linear/Quadratic Systems Investment Assignment:

You are to take on the role of an investment broker who will be analyzing two investment options. The two investment options are as follows:

A(t) atbt + c Investment 2 Investment 1 = A(t) mtc

In both equations:

  • "t" is time in weeks
  • "a" is the amount in dollars
  • "c" is your initial investment.
  • The values of a, b, c and m will be assigned to each student. Please contact your teacher to let them know you are ready to begin this assignment. You will then receive your values.

Your objective is to analyze the two functions, algebraically and graphically, to answer the questions that follow and to ultimately determine the best investment.

1.  Using Desmos or other graphing calculator software, you are to determine the coordinates of when these two graphs intersect one another. Include a screenshot of the point(s) of intersection and ensure you clearly identify the coordinates.

2. Showing all work, confirm the intersection point of Investment 1 and Investment 2 algebraically.

3. Answer the following questions in detail:

a) What do these points of intersection mean in the context of the problem?

b) Under what circumstances should an investor recommend investment 1?

c) Under what circumstances should an investor recommend investment 2?
