A coal generating plant has an installed capacity of 200 kW and the capital cost is USD 150/kW installed. The annual fixed charges are 11% which consist of 5% interest, 5% depreciation and the balance is taxes. The total operating cost between 1st of January until 31st of December is USD 52,200.

1) Calculate and compare the fixed charges per kWh if the load factor is 90% and 50%.

2) Describe TWO (2) components of the power plant that are included as part of the operating cost. Relate the amount of the operating cost with the unit generated in a power plant.
