Plant cells are covered by cell wall which are mainly composed of cellulose. They provide structural support and protection to the cell.

The outer layer of the animal cell is covered by plasma membrane (animal cells lack cell wall).

Since plants and animals are multicellular organism, they often interract with the other cells through the extracellular matrix. These extracellular matrix also provides structural and biochemical support to the neighbouring cells.
