Answer #1

According to the question, the organism may be the Staphylococcus aureus and it is positive for the catalase test. It produces the catalase enzyme which converts the hydrogen peroxide to oxygen & water. The catalase test used to distinguish the staphylococci species from the enterococci & streptococci. Most of the nonpathogenic staphylococci are positive for the coagulase test.

Mannitol Salt Agar used to isolate & identify the Staphylococcus aureus. The mannitol salt agar is a differential & selective media. It has the mannitol and phenol red indicator. The Staphylococcus aureus ferments the mannitol and produces an acidic byproduct which turns the phenol red in the agar to yellow. In mannitol salt agar the Staphylococcus aureus produces the colonies with the yellow zone.
