The amalgam restoration is differentiated in the picture based on the depth of the restoration and the features of the cavity shape prepared. Because, amalgam should have a deeper cavity preparation (18,17,16,27)for the best stability and support and also there will be a proximal step in the cavity design (16,47) in case of a Class II restoration, while composite can be in any shape (48,36,27) and can be restored with a few millimeters deep cavity (48,35,37,38).
