Cognitive dissonance is most likely to occur during the postpurchase evaluation, stage of the decision making process.

The 5 Stages of decision making process in sequential order are:-

  1. Problem Recognition
  2. Information Search
  3. Alternative Evaluation
  4. Purchase Decision
  5. Post Purchase Behaviour

Cognitive dissonance is a concept from behavioural economics it happens when a person makes a certain decision and that choice reflect to be unreal or away from the reality, thus affecting the psycological state of the human mind.

For Eg:- If a person puchases a chinese phone because of its low prices and more features compared to apple's iphone or samsung's durable phones. Cognitive dissonance takes place when the phone battery start draining just after a month of purchase/use.
