Hi,
organic molecules contain Carbon. inorganic molecules are those
that do not contain Carbon. they might contain other elemens such
as Nitrogen, Phosphates..etc.
classes of organic matter
1. carbohydrates
2. Lipids
3. Nuceic acids
4. Proteins
all these classes of biological macromolecules are polymers, that are made up of repeating subunits of monomers. These monomers are joined together by chemical reaction called dehydration or condensation. Polymers can then be broken down back into monomers ina reaction called hydrolysis.
1. Carbohydrates
Comprises of monomers of monosaccharides . example glucose
two linked monomers are called oligosacchrides. example lactose (
glucose+galactose)
chains of monomers are called polymers. example starch
2. Lipids
are hydrocarbons and include fats, poils and waxes.
comprisef of monomers of fatty acids and glyerol
fatty acis are carboxylic acids with long aliphatic chain.
can be: saturated = with no double bonds in the aliphatic
chain
monounsaturated - with one double bond in the aliphatic chain
4 majot types:
Triglycerides - ester derived from glycerol and three fatty acids.
main constituents of human fat.
Glycerophospholipids - fatty acids with phsophate groups.
constitute the lipid bilayer of cells.
Sphingolipids- sphingoid base and is synthesized from amino
acids.
Steroids: Similar to triglycerides but are hydrophobic in
nature.
4. proteins
serve as catalysts, immune defence, stuctural units, muscle mass,
signa molecules, peptide hrmones, hair and nails,
comprised of monomers of amino acids
these are joined by peptide bonds.
rest is written correcly.
