16. answer:- D. an albatross. In ancient times, an Albatross following a ship was considered to be a sign of good luck, but when the mariner shoots the albatross with a crossbow, the act was regarded as a bad omen for the ship. And when the ship's crew were too thirsty to speak anything, they hung the albatross around the mariners neck to symbolize his guilt in killing the bird.

17. answer:- b.to continually wear a symbol around his neck. The albatross was hung around the neck of mariner, to show people, that the albatross can be a good sign or a bad one, and the dead bird around the mariner's neck will be a punishment for him, and as a deterrence for others, not to kill it.

18. answer:- b. death-in-life. When the mariner saw a ship approaching, he bit his own arm to wet his throat and cry for help. The ship turned very fast towards them and he was death steering the wheel and death-in-life as a beautiful naked women, dicing together for the soul of sailor.
