Cohesive groups are formed with people working with the same tasks or people of same ideologies. The cohesive groups can be related to tasks, social relationships or emotions. People would be bonded together with common bonds or factors. There are advantages and disadvantages in being a cohesive group.
The benefit of the cohesive group is the increased level of productivity. As the members of the group would be from various backgrounds and ideologies, there will be a sharing of information and these can be used for the benefit of the end result. Taking for example a cohesive group of marketing and sales executives can share the information of how to increase the sales and finding new markets there by increasing the productivity of the organization.
Althought the advantages of the cohesive group are more when considered to the disadvantages, one of the demerits of the cohesive group the threat to the employer. The employees of different organizations from groups and share the information about the perks they receive. This would inspire the employee to change the organization for the sake of higher pay. The employer can never control this and the frequent chsnge of employees would have an adverse effect in the company.
The role of the employee in an organization demands certain roles that have to be played which may be unwritten law in the organization. The company expects those roles from the employee on the basis of the job description although no one would ever insist the employee to do so. The perception of the employee about the job nature and the working atmosphere makes him take decision about the role to be played in the organization. There would be a bond between the employee and the employer that would make the employee take up new job responsibilities as required to be a part of the success of the organization.
