Answer #1

Compare and contrast functional organization structure, matrix organization structure, and autonomous project organization structure. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each structure. [20 points]

The organization structure is used to achieve the strategic goals of the organization. It depends on the kind of work an organization does. As per the requirement, the organization structure is designed. Functional organization structure is a traditional organization structure having the departments according to the functions in the organization. Clear hierarchies and specialists in the same department are the main characteristics of this structure. On the other hand, the matrix structure is divided into departments and again separated as per products and projects. Autonomous project organization structure is designed when there are multiple projects are taken to complete and a dedicated project team works for a project. After completion of the project, the new team is formed as per the project requirement and qualification.

The answer to the Q. 8)

When a functional organization develops a new product, the possible problems will be effective communication, conflicting opinions and interests.

New product development needs innovative ideas and honest opinions about the product benefits. When a functional organization works for a new product, inter-department coordination is needed. In this type of structure, employees do not coordinate with one another due to their own interest and lack of communication. If employees who do not belong to the research department give any opinion for product improvement, it is not considered, so the forward-looking ideas get stifled. Eventually, it creates conflicts and the employees do not work as a team.

The answer to the Q. 9)

I would like to work in an organization that has a matrix structure.

In a matrix structure, an employee gets involved with different managers who work to complete a project. Due to such structure, as an employee, I will be able to perform better with a blend of the different perspective and give the best results for the customers. My interpersonal skills will be developed with functional expertise. This structure enables increased learning and knowledge transfer with efficient utilization of resources.

Hope this will help you. Please give your feedback.
