Answer #1

Introduction -

A booty is a soft sock-like cover that is used for varieous purposes and is generally worn over a shoe. initially it was used for wormth and protection but nowadays it is generally used by vistors and hospital staffes as a protective covering to prevent littering of the hospital floor and for better hygene inside hospital wards.

Problem Statement -

Although shoe covers were generally put into use by hospital authorities to prevent cross contamination, better hygene of clean areas such as rooms designated for immunocompromised patients, rooms for mixing of IV solutions ect, sometimes these very shoe covers becomes the problem for hospital management. As people tend to use the same cover over and over again or roam in the unclean areas with booties on and them come back to the clean areas with the same things on.

case study/previous cases -

In many developing countries such as asian and african countries these booties are made up of plastic, lack of awareness and lack of training also plays a huge role in causing hazerds because of these shoe covers. As many developing countries has poor sanitation and health infrastructure casual roaming of people with the same shoe covers both ouside and inside the hospitals causes more litter than it would have caused without the use of the shoe covers. In many such countries usage of shoe covers in the health sector has been made mandetory by rule but the authorities lack supply of ample ampunt of them, thats why in many cases the health workers are forced to reuse the same shoe cover over and over again. As these shoe covers are made of plastic unplanned disposal of these also causes clogging of gutters and also expose the hospital wastes to the common people. As a whole in many countries these show cover have proven to be a curse more than a blessing.

Problem identification-

Although most of the problems stated here arises from the use of shoe covers, the problem lies not in them but in the associated organisational failures. It is because of the lack of supply people are forced to reuse them over and over again, it is beacuse of absence of stringent rule people roam around with the same shoe cover and last but not the least the decition of making the shoe cover with plastic is ot taken by health workers but by the officials.

Control and improvement-

Imposing and implementing stringent rules, Ensuring stable suppy, switching from plastic to biodegradable meterials are the only possible ways this situation can be avoided. And last but not the least spreading awarness and training the health workers is infact as important as the mesure itself so that has to ensured at first.
