Answer #1

Fat has very high energy content. A gram of fat has about 9 calories of energy stored in it, while a gram of carbohydrate or protein has only about 4 calories.

Calorific value of fat = 9 cal/g

Therefore the energy required to gain 1 pound of fat (1 pound = 454 g)

= 454 x 9 = 4086 cal

Excess energy gain by the person = 200 cal/day

Number of days required to gain 1 pound of fat  4086 200 = 20.43 days
