Linkage Disequilibrium

Mention one possible reason for why the level of LD in human populations is higher in Europe than in Africa?

Mention one possible reason to why the level of LD is higher in dogs than in e.g. humans?

Calculate LD between two biallelic loci in a situation where one haplotype is deleterious whereas the other haplotypes occur at equal frequencies.

After how many generations have the LD between two loci with a recombination rate of 0.1 declined to 50% of the starting LD?

Answer #1

Linkage disequilibrium deins feasibility of the study.

The level of LD in human populations is higher in Europe than in Africa due to SNPs that are absent in Europe , reflecting positive selection in West Africa. Africans have got dense SNPs.

The level of LD in dogs are higher than in humans because dogs have low haplotype diversity as well high degree of haplotype sharing among different breeds compairing to humans.

LD between two biallelic loci in the given situation,

r2 = (1- Pa) Pb / (1 - Pb) Pa

    need help with this .. From the pages 571-587 attached below. 1a) Suppose a population of guppies was infected with a parasite. In that population a mutation results in a parasite resistant genotype that spreads through the population through natural selection. A subsequent mutation in the parasite results in a genotype that is unaffected by the newly evolved resistant guppy genotype. What is the name of the hypothesis that explains this host parasite “arms race”.? 1b) What is this name...

    Hello, I just need a change to the words for each one of the paragraphs, to say the same thing but with other words. Please and thank you The intestinal microbiota plays a crucial role in the maintenance of gut homeostasis. Changes in crosstalk between the intestinal epithelial cells, immune cells and the microbiota are critically involved in the development of inflammatory bowel disease. In the experimental mouse model, the development of colitis induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) promotes...

    Carlsberg in Emerging Markets A breeze of optimism blew through the office of Carlsberg A/S’s CEO, Jørgen Buhl Rasmussen. After finally gaining 100 percent control over the giant Russian brewery Baltic Beverages Holding (BBH), and with the investments in Western China beginning to bear fruit, the newly appointed CEO was confident that the Danish brewing company’s intensified focus on emerging markets would pay off. The company was counting on tapping the massive potential in emerging markets in order to achieve...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
