Acetyl-CoA carboxylase catalyzes the carboxylering of acetyl-CoA during the formation of malonyl-CoA. The activity of ACC increased in cellular levels of AMP. The product of the ACC catalyzed reaction stimulates the synthesis of Fatty acids and inihibits the oxidation of glucose.

Generally the Acetyl-CoA carboxylase mainly a  biotin-dependent enzyme. This enzyme catalyzes the carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to produce malonyl-CoA which is a irreversible reaction.
