A real-life example of osmosis can be seen in plants when they take up water and nutrients from the soil.

The water from the soil passes the roots through osmosis. The cells present at the root hair surface of the plant are semi-permeable and they allow water and nutrient minerals to pass-through which moves forward through the xylem. The movement is from the roots towards the higher concentrated parts of the plant as osmosis occurs from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one.
