What is telencephalon, diencephalon, mesencephalon, metencephalon, myelencephalon and what does each do?
All the above given terms are the parts of the brain and their function is listed below.
Telencephalon is also known as the cerebrum and its function include most of the activities carried out by brain like memory, motor control and vision as it makes up more than 80 percent of the brain.
Diencephalon relays the sensory information between the brain region and controls many autonomic function of the PNS (peripheral nervous system)
Mesencephalon is also known as the midbrain, It's function is to control the movement of the eye and auditory and visual processing.
Metencephalon is present during the embryonic stage of development which later develops into pons and cerebellum. Pons is responsible with sleep, respiration, swallowing, bladder control, hearing, equilibrium, taste, eye movement, facial expressions, facial sensation, and posture whereas cerebellum is responsible for posture, balance, coordination and speech.
Myelencephalon is the portion of brain present in the embryonic stage of development which develops into medulla oblongata and it is responsible for breathing, digestion, dilation and constriction of vessels and swallowing.
