The first phase of bacterial growth curve is lag phase. In this phase, the bacterial cells are not dividing but they are preparing themselves to divide. They are duplicating their cell components and DNA so that the daughter cells can receive an equal amount of cytoplasm and DNA. This is the phase of growth of bacteria cells. But if the bacterial cells are grown at 7.5 % sodium chloride, then following lag phase, the bacterial cells will show death phase. This is because when they will grow in the presence of 7.5 % sodium chloride, this will be hypertonic to the cells. This will result in water loss from the cells and cells will shrink and ultimately will die. Therefore after lag phase they will show decline phase
