Answer #1

Species A deviates from ancestral sequence in site 1, 2 & 3. Species B deviates from ancestral sequence in site 1, 2 & 4. Species C deviates from ancestral sequence in site 3 & 4. Below three possible ways by which a phylogenetic tree can be drawn is shown.

Ancestral Sequence Ancestral Sequence Ancestral Sequence An + + + + + + + T A B Tree 1 (6 changes) Tree 2 (7 changes) Tree 3

In tree 1, species C can be deviate from A & B at first by changing at sites 3 & 4. After changing at sites 1 & 2, species A & B deviate from each other by incorporating changes at sites 3 & 4 respectively. In this way, there are total 6 changes (Shown by blue lines) can occur over time from ancestral sequence.

In tree 2, species B can be deviate from A & C at first by changing at sites 1, 2 & 4. After changing at site 3, species A & C deviate from each other by incorporating changes at sites 1, 2 (For A) & 4 (For C). In this way, there are total 7 changes (Shown by blue lines) can occur over time from ancestral sequence.

In tree 3, species A can be deviate from B & C at first by changing at sites 1, 2 & 3. After changing at site 4, species B & C deviate from each other by incorporating changes at sites 1, 2 (For B) & 3 (For C). In this way, there are total 7 changes (Shown by blue lines) can occur over time from ancestral sequence.

As tree 1 has least changes (6) than tree 2 & 3 which both have 7 changes, tree 1 is most parsimonious tree.

The geneticists studying the alien organisms have deciphered their genetic code. For familiarity, they have used A, C, G, and T to indicate the bases in this code.A comparable genetic sequence in each alien has been identified in the genes that code for eye growth. This genetic sequence has allowed the aliens to bedivided into six groups, with the single-tail, three-eye group split in half. The geneticists also studied several outgroup species (not shown) to compile alikely ancestral DNA sequence....

Could someone please check my answers? 1. A researcher uncovers a fossil in South America that looks quite similar to a species that currently lives in Africa but does not resemble other South American species. The climate and vegetation in the two locations are very different. What is the MOST likely explanation? A. The fossil must have been transported across the ocean during storms. B. The species are probably not closely related due to convergent evolution. C. There was probably...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...

Please read the article and answer about questions. You and the Law Business and law are inseparable. For B-Money, the two predictably merged when he was negotiat- ing a deal for his tracks. At other times, the merger is unpredictable, like when your business faces an unexpected auto accident, product recall, or government regulation change. In either type of situation, when business owners know the law, they can better protect themselves and sometimes even avoid the problems completely. This chapter...
