Role of Rubisco

  • Ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase is one of the abundant enzyme which fixes carbon from the air.
  • It is a essential enzyme which makes life out of air.
  • Rubisco need large amount by plants in Calvin cycle.
  • Conversion of inorganic CO2 into organic forms which contains C-C bonds as well as H bond.
  • Rubisco used to sustain the plants in the form of sucrose.

Limitation of Rubisco

  • Rubisco is inefficient in capturing CO2.
  • Need more amount of rubisco to compensate the poor performance in the warm as well as sunny habit.
  • Rubisco process 3 reactions per seconds ( other enzymes process 1000 reactions per second).
