Viruses enter the cell by three different mechanisms, membrane fusion, endocytosis or via genetic conjugation. Before a virus enters the cell it must attach to the surface of the host cell. Attachment of viruses to the host membrane occurs through the interaction of viral coat proteins (capsid) or envelope with the host membrane protein called receptors. once a virus attaches to the surface it may, (1) fuse with host phospholipid membrane and puncture it to enter the cell, (2) get endocytosed as a food particle or (3) or release it's DNA/RNA directly after attachment.
The enveloped viruses virus may enter the cell by the fusion or endocytosis mechanism while the naked viruses directly inject their genetic content after attachment.
Paragraph Styles The technological approaches applied for ancient DNA study can also be used for forensic genetic analysis in difficult cases where only microscopic amounts of material are available or the DNA has been severely damaged. Some of these approaches were used in the genetic expertise of the putative remains of the family of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II Romanov. There is historical evidence that Prince Alexey suffered from severe bleeding that is characteristic of hemophilia. It is now...

strand, resulting in double-stranded breaks (DSBs) that trigger cellular repai mechanisms. In eukaryotes, the DSBs are more commonly repaired by the mechanism ot error prone non ho mologous end joining (NHEJ), therefore generating sequence changes, for instance insertions and deletians (indels), around the DSBs. Owing to the simplicity of manipulation and versati ity, the CRISPR/Cas9 system has been...

Lab 13. Mitosis and Meiosis Purpose The purpose of this lab is to understand the process of mitosis and melosis in animal and plant cells. Learning Objectives After completing this lab, you will be able to: 1. Describe the stages of mitosis. 2. Identify the stages of mitosis in an onion root or whitefish blastula using a light microscope. 3. Describe how cytokinesis differs in plant vs. animal cells. 4. Name and...
